Another Xarelto lawsuit has been filed in federal court by a woman who suffered gastrointestinal bleeding while taking the drug for atrial fibrillation treatment. The excessive bleeding lawsuit was filed against Xarelto co-manufacturers Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Bayer, and alleges that the companies failed to adequately warn patients of the risks associated with Xarelto.
Xarelto is an anticoagulant used to thin blood in patients who have undergone certain medical procedures of suffered conditions such as atrial fibrillation. Recent studies have found that Xarelto could increase the risk of severe side effects, including internal hemorrhaging that requires transfusions. Xarelto also does not contain a natural antidote.
Patients who suffered Xarelto side effects allege that Bayer and Janssen ignored research and intentionally misrepresented the drug as safe. To date, more than 180 patients have died from complications related to Xarelto side effects.
