Lawsuit Claims – Xarelto Causes Uncontrolled Bleeding
One of Xarelto’s most dangerous side effects is uncontrolled bleeding, which can be fatal. People who have suffered internal bleeding side effects have filed lawsuits against Bayer claiming that the company did not properly warn of the uncontrolled bleeding risk.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains a database of “adverse event reports” to monitor injuries reported while using a specific drug or medical device. Quarterwatch, a publication issued by the Institute of Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), noted over 200 events of uncontrolled bleeding, specifically gastrointestinal or internal hemorrhage (bleeding).
Xarelto bleeding side effects may include:
- rectal bleeding,
- intestinal or abdominal bleeds,
- hemorrhaging, and/or
- bleeding in the brain.
Lack of a Reversal Agent
A reversal agent (antidote, neutralizing drug) is used to reverse possible side effects of using blood thinning drugs, including internal or uncontrolled bleeding. Xarelto, unlike other blood thinners that have been used for years, lacks a reversal agent.
